• Painting temporary bike lanes to create a safe space for cargo bikes and bicycles will significantly increase the safety and comfort of these users with low financial and material effort. Additionally, optimizing signal light timings prioritizing non-motorized traffic can further enhance their experience.
• The optimal solution for this situation is to prioritize active transportation by expanding cycling infrastructure, implementing traffic calming measures, and creating dedicated cargo bike lanes. Examples of successful implementations of this type of infrastructure can be found in cities like Copenhagen or Amsterdam.
• Create a "Green Zone" in the city center where only bicycles, cargo bikes, and electric vehicles are allowed, equipped with charging points and bike rental stations. The "Green Zone" would also feature pedestrian-friendly streets, public parks, cafes, and social areas. This would not only improve traffic flow and quality of life but also attract eco-conscious businesses and create a vibrant urban community.
• Engage with your local government to advocate for the development of more bike lanes and pedestrian-friendly infrastructure. Safe and accessible streets benefit everyone in the community.
• The mobility officer should assess the area for potential improvement in infrastructure to accommodate the increasing use of cargo bikes. This may include wider bike lanes and designated parking areas. The officer should also consider conducting surveys to understand the needs of all forms of mobility in the area.
