• Reposition the gates to avoid obstructing the footpath and cycle path. This can be easily done at low cost and without any new materials, improving safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
• The optimal solution is to widen the cycle path and footpath around the gate, or move the gate back. International examples include the Dutch woonerf concept, with shared spaces for vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists.
• Install interactive LED lights on the gates that light up as people approach, creating a fun and engaging experience while also increasing visibility and safety. The lights could be programmed with different colors and patterns depending on the time of day or season, creating a unique and memorable feature for the area.
• You can report this to the local transportation or public works department. They will evaluate the situation and take necessary actions such as adjusting the location of the gate or adding warning signs to prevent future accidents.
• The mobility officer should assess the gate's placement and potential danger it poses to pedestrian and cyclist safety. If necessary, considering moving the gates or reconfiguring the paths to ensure safe passage for all city users.
