This existing combined bicycle and pedestrian path in Groß-Gerau Nord is too narrow. As far as I know, the minimum width for a combined bicycle and pedestrian path is at least 2.5 meters. This path is nowhere near this width. Even in the following curve before the bridge approach, the path is not really wider.
Unfortunately, driving on the road is not an alternative here, as there is regular heavy traffic on this narrow road. Ideally, the narrow road would be closed to heavy goods traffic and cycling on the road.

- One quick win could be to temporarily widen the existing combined bicycle and pedestrian path by adding removable barriers or cones to create a buffer zone between the path and the road. This would provide more space for cyclists and pedestrians and improve safety without requiring significant financial or material effort. Additionally, installing clear signage indicating the shared use of the path and prohibiting heavy goods traffic would help prioritize non-motorized modes of transportation

- One solution could be to create an elevated bike and pedestrian path above the existing narrow road. This would ensure the safety of cyclists and pedestrians and eliminate the need for sharing the road with heavy traffic. Additionally, implementing restrictions on heavy goods traffic would further enhance safety and encourage more people to use the path for cycling.
- Using negative brainstorming:
1. Remove the bike lane and stop sign completely, forcing cyclists to ride on the road with heavy traffic.
2. Decrease the width of the path even more, making it extremely dangerous for both pedestrians and cyclists.
3. Remove any signage or markings, creating confusion and increasing the risk of accidents.
4. Introduce more heavy goods traffic on the narrow road, further

- The municipality should prioritize widening the existing combined bicycle and pedestrian path in Groß-Gerau Nord to meet the minimum width requirement of 2.5 meters. The next person to get involved could be a civil engineer or a construction contractor to assess the feasibility and cost of widening the path. Additionally, involving local cycling and pedestrian advocacy groups would provide valuable input and ensure community needs are considered.
