In Büttelborn, the bridge over the highway is very narrow. Very dangerous bike lane for cyclists (and pedestrians). Officially, a bike lane crosses this bridge and there is a solid white line, so motorists are not allowed to overtake. The bridge goes around a curve so oncoming traffic cannot be detected in a timely manner. Consequently, it is very dangerous for bicyclists and pedestrians to use this bridge. The solid white line is often ignored and overtaking is very dangerous. Unfortunately, this is the only way for pedestrians and cyclists to cross the highway. This situation has unfortunately remained unchanged in recent years. However, it is becoming more and more dangerous due to the steadily increasing traffic caused by the steadily growing commercial areas in Büttelborn. It is only a matter of time until there will be an accident with personal injury here. There is an urgent need for action!!!

• Paint diagonal lines on the bike lane to suggest a shared space with cars. Put up a "share the road" sign. This will create awareness of the dangerous situation. It is cheap, quick, and can reduce the risk of accidents in the short term.
• The optimal long-term solution would be to widen the bridge and create a protected bike lane. The bike lane should be segregated from the motor vehicle lane and have bollards to protect cyclists. There should be additional signage indicating that overtaking is illegal and increased enforcement. International examples of well-designed bike infrastructure can be found in Amsterdam, Copenhagen, and Vancouver.
• A "moonshot" way to improve the situation in Büttelborn would be to implement a bi-level bridge, where the lower level is exclusively for pedestrians and cyclists, and the upper level is for cars. This would eliminate the dangers of mixing different modes of transportation on a narrow bridge, while also providing a unique and innovative landmark for the city. It would require significant investment and planning, but
• As a citizen, you can report this dangerous situation to the local authorities through their website or by calling them. You can also create a petition, gather signatures, and submit it to your local decision-makers, demanding that they take urgent action to widen the bridge and improve the safety of the bike lane for cyclists and pedestrians.
